On 19 April, 2012 South Sound Composite Squadron welcome its new commander in a ceremony at the Newbridge Community Church.  Lt. Col. Bill Lewis presided over the ceremony presenting 1Lt. Percy Newby with the Squadron Guidon.  1Lt. Thomas Hoffer stood in for outgoing commander Capt. David Daverso, who was away on business.

After the change of command, the newly installed commander presided over his first promotions.  Cadet Choi was promoted to c/Amn, Cadets Cox and West were promoted to c/A1C, and Cadet Lanning was promoted to c/MSgt.  Lt. Dean was also promoted to 1Lt.  Also promoted, but not in attendance, were the Cheshire brothers - both of whom gained the rank of c/TSgt.

Two other awards were mentioned for senior members who were unable to attend.  Capt. Michael Gilbreath was awarded the Orientation Pilot Award for leading more than 150 orientation flights.  TFO Nathan VanCleve was given a Certificate of Appreciation by Lt. Col. Michael Sinclair for his work as Net Control for the Olympia Repeater VHF Net.
